World Basketball News: Canadian national team head coach Jordi Fernandez wants to create a distinct identity for his team. He doesn’t want to assimilate Canada’s style of play to that of teams from the Americas or Europe.
Geographically, Canada is located on the American continent, next to the United States. However, Jordi Fernandez does not want to adopt the same style of play as in Uncle Sam’s country. He said that his team has unique abilities and that makes it difficult for Canada to stop them. Yesterday, at the FIBA World Cup 2023 tournament, Canada managed to place third after beating the United States. Canada is one of the teams whose performance has exceeded the expectations of many people.
“We have a different style of play, because of our physical abilities and our qualities. We are not a European team, nor an American team, we have our own identity,” coach Jordi said when interviewed by local media.
“It’s true that we have players who can run down the court after stealing the ball, and there are only a few who can play offensively with that kind of speed. We make good shots, I think we are ranked 1st or 2nd in offensive efficiency. In this tournament (FIBA World Cup 2023), people can say what they want about the game system or playing 20 seconds to make a shot,” said the bald coach.
