NEW YORK — Nearly 138,000 platform beds sold at major retailers including Amazon and Walmart are being recalled in the United States and Canada because they can collapse, posing a fall and injury hazard.
CVB Inc. Importer based in Utah. considering the Lucid brand platform bed with its square tufted and upholstered headboard. According to an advisory released Thursday by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, the bed could sag, break or collapse during use.
To date, there have been 245 such incidents in the United States, resulting in 18 people with injuries such as bruises and contusions, the CPSC said. Eleven other cases of “bed failure” have been reported in Canada, with no other injuries.
According to Lucid, the recall covers discontinued versions of the platform bed, which the company says were manufactured between 2019 and 2021.
Even though production ended several years ago, the now-recalled beds are still being sold at major retailers through April 2024, the CPSC said. In addition to Amazon, Walmart and Lucid, consumers can also purchase bedding at Bed Bath & Beyond, eBay, Home Depot, Macys, Target.com, Wayfair and other retailers.
About 137,000 recalled beds were sold in the United States and 890 in Canada, the CPSC said.
The beds – made in Malaysia and available in twin, full, queen, king and cal-king sizes – can be identified by the white legal label on the back of the headboard. “Made For: CVB INC, 1525 W 2960 S, LOGAN, UT 84321” should be printed on it.
People with Murphy beds are urged to stop using them immediately and contact Lucid for a free replacement frame.
Users should write the word “rotate” on the bed support rail with a permanent marker and send a photo to Lucid. More information on how to obtain a replacement can be found on Lucid’s recall page.
