Volleyball News: An exciting five-set match took place in Hong Kong on Saturday (17/06) as part of the VNL 2023 follow-up match. Dominican Republic managed to win 3-2 (22-25, 25-13, 25-17, 23-25, 15-10) over Canada.
The win moved the Dominican Republic up to 10th place with a 3-4 win-loss record and seven points, just below the North American team, which now has a 3-5 win-loss record and 10 points.
The Dominican Republic showed some fantastic blocking throughout the game, with Jineiry Martinez making seven of the team’s 20 blocks. Yonkaira Pena led the team with 20 points, while Canadian captain Alexa Gray had a team-high 21 points.
In another match, just a day after suffering their first defeat in the 2023 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) and losing the top spot in the standings to undefeated China, Poland bounced back in the best possible way.
Magdalena Stysiak led the team to a stunning 3-0 victory over China (25-20, 25-23, 25-22) who hosted Pool 3 in Hong Kong on Saturday (17/06), where the European team improved its record to a 7-1 victory and 20 points, ahead of second place in the VNL 2023 standings, China with 6-1 and 17 points.
Stysiak had 19 points in the game, followed by Martyna Lukasik who had 13 points. Two Chinese players, Gong Xiangyu and Li Yingying each finished the game with 13 points.
