He also said Trudeau should resign because voters told him, “They are ignoring him (the prime minister) and want him gone.” He said voters in his riding had “disappeared” from Trudeau. During the conversation, he said that while Trudeau’s work over the past nine years has been truly transformative, “voters aren’t listening to him anymore.”

Charlottetown also admitted that he informed the Prime Minister of the current situation during a private phone call in July.

Many other lawmakers also demanded Trudeau’s resignation.

Casey would have become the first MP to publicly urge the Canadian prime minister to step down before the next election and give the Liberals a chance. Even before that, many parliamentarians had demanded his resignation, but none had declared it publicly.

During the interview, he also acknowledged that he was aware of a series of meetings held on Parliament Hill following his defeat in the Toronto-St. Paul in June, but he did not personally participate.
