Reported by Channel News Asia, local police said the knife attack happened on Sunday (09/04/2022) local time. The stabbings took place at 13 different locations in the province of Saskatchewan, including the James Smit Cree Nation and the village of Weldon.
The James Smith Cree Nation is an aboriginal community of approximately 3,400 people who primarily practice agriculture, hunting and fishing. Meanwhile, Weldon is a village inhabited by 200 people.

The stabbing incident left 10 people dead at the scene and 15 others injured. Some of the injured were taken to hospital.
“We have found 10 deceased people at 13 locations in the Cree Nation communities of James Smith and Weldon, Saskatchewan,” Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore said at a news conference, quoted by detikcom, Monday (5/9/2022) .
“Several additional victims were injured, 15 of whom were transported to various hospitals.”

Local residents saw the attackers wandering around
An eyewitness said he saw the attacker in Regina, Saskatchewan’s capital, around lunchtime. However, since then, the attacker has never been seen again.
“Do not leave a safe place. Do not approach suspicious people. Do not take people who ask to drive you away. Report suspicious people, emergencies or call 911. Do not reveal the whereabouts of the police”, said the local. police (RCMP) via a Twitter account, quoted by detikcom, Monday (5/9/2022).
The search for the perpetrators of the stabbings continues as many people travel to the city of Regina to attend a Canadian Football League game. The Regina Police Department said officers were already in multiple locations.
The motive for the stabbing is still mysterious
The motive for the massive knife attacks in Canada has not been revealed. Saskatchewan Police Rhonda Blackmore said it was possible the perpetrators attacked the victims at random.
