Football News: Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic says fellow Canadian John Herdman refused to shake his hand after his side’s World Cup win put them on the verge of qualifying for the knockout stages.
Dalic saw his side come back from Alphonso Davies’ opening goal – Canada’s first goal in a men’s World Cup tournament – to win their Group F encounter at the Khalifa International Stadium 4-1.
Before the match, the Croatian head coach urged his opponent to show respect after Herdman told his players to make life uncomfortable for their opponents in industrial parlance.
The Croatia boss said: “I didn’t see another head coach after the game. Whether I lose or win, I always congratulate the other head coaches.
“He wasn’t there and that was his way of doing things. He was clearly angry. He’s a good coach, he’s a high-quality professional, but it will take time for him to learn some things .”
A second straight loss means Canada will have to go home regardless of the result of their last game against Morocco.
Asked if he regretted his pre-match comments, Herdman said: “I could have calmed down a bit. That’s my learning. I’m going to take all that impact.
Davies’ second-minute header sparked the 2018 runners-up, who leveled Andrej Kramaric and took the lead through a Marko Livaja goal before Kramaric and substitute Lovro Majer finished the job.
