Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – Men’s singles player Ihsan Maulana Mustofa, who hasn’t been heard from for a long time, will join Viktor Axelsen’s training squad based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Former Pelatnas PBSI resident Cipayung says his decision to move to Dubai was secured after receiving a direct request from world number one badminton, to become a training partner for around three weeks.
“After finishing here (National Championship 2022), I went straight to Dubai to train with Viktor as well. Train there, help him,” Ihsan said when meeting ANTARA at PBSI Pelatnas, Jakarta, Thursday.
Badminton player PB Djarum has said his move to Dubai is not final as in general he has no intention of spending the 2023 season.
However, at first he complied with the invitation of Axelsen, who personally contacted him and asked Ihsan to help the Danish badminton player prepare for the 2023 competition as a training partner with other badminton players around the world.
“He contacted me. When I was still playing, we knew each other and had a good relationship. He was also a nice person. At that time, he asked me why I never showed up (at the tournament ), I answered because I had been sick a lot and didn’t play,” said Ihsan.
After asking about the news and discussing personal matters, Axelsen also offered Ihsan to come and join the training team in Dubai. It didn’t take long for Ihsan to agree to the request.
“Yes, about three weeks ago there. After the national championships, he went straight to Dubai until January. He wants to prepare for Malaysia (Open). In my opinion, Viktor still lacks friends training. That’s why he called me, Loh Kean Yew (Singapore), and others,” Ihsan said.
According to the information he provided, there are at least two other badminton players who will go to Dubai, namely 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew from Singapore and Brian Yang from Canada.
