Espoo (dpa) – After successfully completing qualification for the World Cup, the basketball players returned to their respective clubs. In the coming weeks, the club’s professionals will need to get off to a good start in the play-offs or avoid relegation.
National coach Gordon Herbert and officials of the German Basketball Association will continue planning for upcoming World Cups in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia this summer. The exciting weeks leading up to the August 25 tournament are fast approaching.
The draw for the World Cup will be made at the end of April
At the start of August, Herbert will likely gather an extended World Cup squad around him in Bonn. Then the first NBA pro should have been there. In total, about three weeks of preparations were planned. Another highlight will be the Super Cup in Hamburg, with China, New Zealand and Canada taking part in the second weekend of August, according to dpa info. Another friendly match against the Canadian team is also scheduled, as Herbert was part of the coaching staff before taking over as Germany’s national coach. If all goes as planned, there will be two more important events before the World Cup. Herbert’s team are due to play test matches in Abu Dhabi against the United States and Greece with NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The next important date for German basketball players is April 29. Then the draw for the World Cup groups will take place in Manila. The ceremony, which will take place in the Philippine capital, will also determine where Herbert’s team will play their preliminary and intermediate round matches. Manila, Okinawa (Japan) and Jakarta (Indonesia) are eligible.
