Rospawati said his company started by making fish skin products which were sold in nearby shops and cafes around Pringsewu Regency in Lampung province. Who would have thought that one of the consumers could see his product and order it in large quantities.

“Since then, our products have evolved,” he added.

Today, Rospawati not only sells fish skin chips in its shop. He started to develop and manufacture various snack products such as banana chips, banana vending, cassava chips, potato chips, taro chips and purple sweet potato chips.

“Now there are more and more snack orders, so I have to add up to 15 employees,” he said.

During the pandemic, Rospawati admitted that she nearly went bankrupt. The product does not sell because there are almost no buyers at all. In fact, its employees were once unemployed. But fortunately, the presence of social media has revived Rospawati’s business.

“I used Instagram to start a digital business. Orders skyrocketed again. During the pandemic, sales increased sixfold,” he said.

Rospawati said their products are now even more global. Rafins Snack Indonesia has entered Malaysia, Singapore, Canada, Turkey, Japan, Egypt and India as resellers, distributors and direct sales.

“Now we are processing orders for potato chips from companies in Singapore,” he said.

Rospawati explained that the key to success lies in satisfying customer service. Up to 90% of successful sales because consumers are satisfied with the service. The Rafins stand also offers a place to take pictures and taste.

“Friendly service and consistently satisfied customers are key. The fact is, everything makes consumers happy,” he said.

Rospawati added that the success of Rafins Snack Indonesia was also due to a strategy that follows the latest trends, namely selling through digital platforms and social media.

“Today is the digital age, so we have to follow this trend. Otherwise, we will be left behind. Likewise with the variety of flavors of the products. Currently the trend is Korean flavor Bulgogi, we are adjusting it,” he said.
