Why Xi Jinping scolded Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau
The warning expressed by Xi Jinping related to the details of the meeting Xi and Trudeau had previously had when both were in Bali.
City of NY TimesXi Jinping’s “leak” allegation concerns Canada’s disclosure of details of a previously unscheduled meeting between China and Canada since China does not appear to have prepared a separate report.
In the viral video, Xi Jinping called Trudeau’s actions “inappropriate” because Trudeau leaked them to the media.
Xi Jinping questioned the lack of “sincerity” in Trudeau’s approach.
“Everything we discussed was leaked in the newspapers, it’s inappropriate,” Xi Jinping said, through an interpreter.
He added that this is not how the conversation is conducted.
“In Canada, we believe in free, open and frank dialogue and that’s what we will continue to do,” Trudeau said, interrupting Xi Jinping’s interpreter.
“We will continue to work together constructively, but there will be things we cannot agree on.” he added.
While waving his hand, Xi Jinping told Trudeau that the two would have to set conditions first.
The two then ended the conversation by shaking hands and walked in opposite directions.
The Prime Minister of Canada looked devastated after receiving the reprimand.
