F1 News: During his participation in the first day of the Bahrain GP, Lance Stroll had such difficulty driving the car due to pain in his injured wrist.
Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll was forced to miss the 2023 F1 pre-season test in Bahrain which lasted three days. It was all caused because he was injured after an accident while riding his bike.
As a result, his participation in the Bahrain GP weekend was in doubt. F2 racer Felipe Drugovich was then nominated by the team to fill the young Canadian position.
Fortunately, Stroll was declared fit and cleared to race. He was able to drive the AMR23 car during two free practice sessions which took place on Friday (3/3).
The son of Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll performed at peak performance given he missed three days of testing. Stroll was able to finish both sessions overall placing sixth.
But the main problem is that Stroll struggles to turn the wheel when bulldozing Turn 1 at the Bahrain Circuit. In a chat with Aston Martin race engineer Ben Michell, he admitted he couldn’t follow the team’s instructions properly due to wrist pain.
Then, in second free practice, Lance Stroll started to learn how to hold the wheel in Turn 1. The 24-year-old looked so enthusiastic after watching his teammate, Fernando Alonso, lead the record time in FP2.
However, Aston Martin must remain vigilant if Stroll again has difficulty driving. The Silverstone-based team certainly don’t want any accidents, especially as the championship has just started.
