Bawaslu Protest Volunteers Call Anies Baswedan’s Political Safari Immoral

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Secretary General of the Indonesian Collaboration Secretariat (SKI), Raharja Waluya Jati, said that the Election Monitoring Body (Bawaslu) needs to clarify the statement of its member, Puadi. According to Jati, the statement seemed to impede the right of the people to access information about the party and the presidential candidate being promoted.

“Whether we realize it or not, this statement is undemocratic and unfair. Such an attitude should not develop within the electoral management body,” Jati said in his statement, Sunday, December 18, 2022.

He explained that campaign activities and various forms of communication between candidates and political parties must be considered from the perspective of the interests of the people. “Election organizers should award prizes to the Party Nasdem and Anies Baswedan. Their approaches allow people to know more about the parties and the candidates who will be nominated,” he said.

Earlier, Bawaslu President Rahmat Bagja said that Anies Baswedan stole the start of the campaign. Bagja said the campaign was in stages election 2024 Officially, it can only be realized in November 2023.

“Yes, let’s see if we start the campaign. It’s not November 24 yet,” Bagja said in Central Jakarta on Friday, November 16, 2022.

Even though he stole the start, Bagja said Anies Baswedan does not violate the 2024 election rules as he has not yet been definitively registered as a presidential candidate. Even so, Bagja said Bawaslu would discuss with the KPU the theft of Anies’ campaign.
