Indonesian Rubber Business Association (Gapkindo) executive secretary Edy Irwansyah said the reduction was a priority as rubber plantations in North Sumatra were now entering a phase of leaf fall which was impacting the decline in production.
This leaf fall is a natural leaf fall that occurs every year. Leaf fall varies by region, from January to March, and the end also varies from March to April.
“Geographically, North Sumatra is located between 1 degree and 4 degrees north latitude and between 98 degrees and 100 degrees east longitude,” Edy said in Medan on Friday (03/10/2023).
Edy explained that in total, the export volume from January to February 2023 was 61,305 tonnes, down 7.4% from the same period in 2022.

Exports for March 2023 are expected to remain stagnant due to lack of raw materials. Therefore, if there is an increase in demand, it cannot be compensated by the availability of raw materials because part of the production of rubber plantations in North Sumatra is still in the leaf fall phase, so production is low.
