Canada managed to pass World Cup 2022 in Qatar after beating Jamaica 4-0 in the Concacaf Zone qualifying round at BMO Field, Toronto on Sunday night (3/27) local time.

The win over Jamaica put Canada top of the Concacaf Zone 2022 World Cup Qualifiers standings with 28 points from 13 games. The team nicknamed Les Rouges are six points ahead of the United States and Mexico in second and third place.

It is impossible to move Canada’s position to Costa Rica in fourth place with 19 points. The top three teams in the 2022 Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers standings will automatically qualify for Qatar, with fourth place qualifying for the Inter-Confederation Qualifiers.

In front of nearly 30,000 spectators at BMO Field, Canada successfully beat Jamaica with goals from Cyle Larin, Tajon Buchanan, David Hoilett and Adrian Mariappa’s own goal.

This is Canada’s second time in the World Cup final. Canada ended a 36-year drought by qualifying for the World Cup after last playing at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

At that time, Canada lost all three group stage matches and failed to score. At that time, Canada lost 0-1 to France, 0-2 to Hungary and 0-2 to the Soviet Union.

The United States and Mexico are expected to be the two national teams that will accompany Canada to automatically qualify for the 2022 World Cup from the Concacaf zone.
