Zhao founded Binance in 2017 and quickly grew its daily trading volume to over USD 20 billion or the equivalent of IDR 298.4 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of IDR 14,920 per US dollar).
Changpeng Zhao made headlines in November 2022 when its trading rival FTX faced a liquidity crunch. Zhao initially halted all trading of FTX’s native FTT tokens.

Youth and education
Changpeng Zhao was born on February 5, 1977 in the Chinese province of Jiangsu. Her father, Shengkai, emigrated to Vancouver, Canada, in 1984 to pursue a doctorate, and the rest of her family arrived in 1989.
The Zhao family left China right after the Tiananmen Square massacre and were able to expedite visa security.
He was first introduced to the world of computers when his father bought a DOS computer for US$7,000, the equivalent of 104.4 million rupees. Zhao eventually enrolled in computer programming classes and earned a degree in computer science from McGill University.
Binance Career and Creation
After graduating from McGill, Zhao worked as an entrepreneur for the Tokyo Stock Exchange, then as a Tradebook Futures Development Manager at Bloomberg Professional Services from 2001 to 2005.
He eventually teamed up with friends to start an information technology (IT) consulting company and moved to Singapore to start Fusion Systems.
