The State of Australia follows a number of Western countries that have banned the TikTok app for government employees.
PORTALMEDIA.ID – Australia has followed a number of Western countries in banning the use of the TikTok app on government employees’ work devices. The reason is the same; concerned about the security of user data.
Australian Attorney General Mark Dreyfus announced the ban on Tuesday after receiving advice from intelligence and security agencies, and said the directive would be implemented “as soon as possible”. So as quoted CNNTuesday (4/4/2023).
The move puts Australia in line with its allies in the Five Eyes intelligence alliance – the US, UK and Canada – who previously announced similar restrictions. Meanwhile, the New Zealand parliament has also ordered that the app be removed from all devices with access to the legislature.

Lee Hunter, managing director of TikTok in Australia and New Zealand, said he was “deeply disappointed with this decision which we believe is politically driven”, he told Cover6.
“Our millions of Australian users deserve a government that makes decisions based on facts and treats all businesses fairly, regardless of their country of origin,” said Lee Hunter.
Lee Hunter also pointed out that the TikTok company has repeatedly approached the Australian government for constructive engagement. He also pointed out that there was no evidence to suggest that its application posed a security risk to the country.
