Exchange rate rupee closed at IDR 14,842 per American dollars Tuesday (18/4). The Garuda currency weakened by 48.5 points or minus 0.33% from the previous trade.
Meanwhile, Bank of Indonesia (BI) Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) benchmark rate put the rupiah at IDR 14,855 per US dollar this afternoon.
The majority of Asian currencies also closed compactly in the red zone. The Hong Kong dollar fell 0.01%, the Indian rupee minus 0.05%, the Malaysian ringgit 0.28%, the Philippine peso 0.51% and the South Korean won 0.55 %.
Only the Chinese yuan increased by 0.07%, the Singaporean dollar by 0.12%, the Japanese yen by 0.23% and the Thai baht by 0.57%.
Meanwhile, the currencies of developed countries strengthened compactly. The British pound rose by 0.47%, the European euro by 0.44%, the Swiss franc by 0.26%, the Canadian dollar by 0.20% and the Australian dollar by 0.56%.
DCFX Senior Analyst Lukman Leong said the Rupee weakened as expected against the US Dollar which strengthened against almost all Asian currencies. However, today’s US Dollar corrected from the previous session’s strengthening against major global currencies.
“The rupiah reversed some of the weakness (rebound) in the afternoon session after the BI governor’s meeting, as expected to make a hawkish statement on the Indonesian economy,” he said. he told CNNIndonesia.com.
