After fugitive Canadian citizens from Interpol allegedly extorted IDR 1 billion in Bali, 2 police officers and 1 citizen are questioned


DENPASAR, KOMPAS.com Two police officers from the General Directorate of the National Police (Mabes) and a civilian were questioned by the Investigation Division of the Professional and Security Division or Propam Polri.

This investigation relates to allegations of extortion against a Canadian citizen (WN), with the initials SG (50), who was arrested after being declared a fugitive by Interpol.

Bali Police Public Relations Chief Kombes Pol Stefanus Satake Bayu Setianto said the review followed a report by SG’s lawyer regarding extortion allegations against his IDR billion client. .

It’s just that Satake was reluctant to mention the identity of the two members of the national police headquarters and a civilian who was questioned about the report.

“An investigation is still ongoing regarding the truth (SG was blackmailed), the reported parts are currently being investigated by Propam Mabes Polri,” he said during of a meeting on Monday (5/6/2023).

Satake said SG was originally due to be handed over to Bali Immigration on Sunday (06/04/2023), for later extradition to Australia.

However, the submission process had to be postponed according to SG’s lawyer’s report.

He added that SG should be extradited to Australia at the request of Canada’s Interpol.

“Yesterday we had planned to turn him over to Immigration and then coordinate with Canada, but the Canadian citizen’s lawyer reported that the extortion was being carried out by police information at National Police Headquarters,” did he declare.

Satake said he would coordinate with Immigration and Canada to reconfirm SG’s identity, as noted in the red notice.

This was done because SG’s lawyer said there was a discrepancy in the passport number held by his client and this was stated in the red notice.

“In the data of the red notice, it is indeed the person concerned (SG). We will later make efforts to re-examine this matter and we are also coordinating with immigration and Canada who made the red notice “, did he declare.

Earlier it was reported that Canadian Citizen SG (50) Legal Counsel Pahrur Dalimunthe accused Bali Police of Business Brokers Syndicate (Markus) behind the arrest of his client who has was declared a fugitive by Interpol.

Pahrur said that about four weeks before his arrest, SG was visited by unscrupulous civilians who claimed to have relations with members of the Hubinter National Police while wearing red notice sheets.

At that time, the person then blackmailed SG into not being arrested on the condition that he give money.

Due to continuous threats, SG was then forced to hand over a sum of money to the person in stages with a total of Rp. 1 billion.

“So these civilians are in contact with the device and the communication is clear with the device, a kind of syndicate of Markus,” he told Bali police reporters on Sunday (06/04/2023 ).

Soon after, Pahrur continued, unscrupulous civilians returned to the SG to demand Rp.

However, SG did not comply with this request because he felt blackmailed and realized that these individuals were a case brokerage syndicate.

Until he was finally arrested at his home in Canggu, Kita Utara, Badung, Bali on May 19, 2023.
