Before the XXXII SEA Games in Cambodia in May 2023, the women’s national basketball team (timnas) will bring in two naturalized players.
July Wong, assistant coach of Indonesian women’s basketball, said the two naturalized players Kimberly Pierre Louis of Canada and Peyton Whitted of the United States.
“Now they are in leagues abroad, one (Kimberly) is in the French league, and the other (Peyton) is in the league in Turkey. They may come in March,” a- he said while at GOR Kertajaya Surabaya on Thursday (12/1/2023).
July Wong said Kimberly, the 183cm basketball player, had previously joined the Indonesian national team, including at the 2019 SEA Games.
“For Kimberly, having been with us before, so I know. He is aggressive and his power is extraordinary,” he said.
Likewise with Peyton, he also had the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of playing with the Indonesian national team. However, July admitted that she would learn even more about the typical style and style of the 190cm tall player as she hadn’t seen much of her game.
The two naturalized players, said July, have the potential to boost the game of the Indonesian national team even further.
Therefore, the other Indonesian national team players are currently also receiving a training program which can improve their playing quality and self-confidence.
According to him, so that when they face each other on the pitch, players can play optimally and not depend on a single player, especially naturalized players.
“The problem is if they see Kim, the ball will be given to Kim. Well, if with to improve like that, I hope they’re all the same, so they feel Kim like a partner, not like someone you always expect of him,” he explained.
He hopes that before facing a match of the SEA Games, the game of his whole team will be more solid and chemistryit increases.
“Hopefully the individual game will improve. So when our naturalized players arrive, the game sucks,” he concluded. (ris/dfn/ipg)
