Badminton News: Indonesian veteran duo, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan, successfully started the Canada Open World Tour Super 500 tournament by gently winning the round of 16 with victory over United States representatives, Chen Zi Yi/Presley Smith .
The Daddies, nicknamed Ahsan/Hendra – met United States Representatives Chen Zi Yi/Presley Smith in the first round. Ahsan/Hendra managed to clear the United States representatives in two straight games with a score of 21-14 and 21-13 in just 24 minutes.
In the game which took place on Thursday (6/7) WIB morning at WinSport Arena, Calgary, Canada, Ahsan/Hendra immediately took control of the game with an early 5-1 streak after four straight points . Although Chen/Smith closed in, Ahsan/Hendra pulled away again to close the gap with an 11-7 advantage.
After the restart, Ahsan/Hendra continued to win consecutive points 16-9 until they managed to close out the first game comfortably.
The start of the second match was quite tight with the two pairs tied 3-3. However, Ahsan/Hendra then managed to stay away until 9-4 after winning four straight points and hitting the interval at 11-5.
After the break, Ahsan/Hendra were increasingly unstoppable, earning four straight points to lead 19-9. Even though Chen/Smith came close, the USA pair’s score could only touch 13, with The Daddies successfully closing the match.
Additionally, in the top 16 of the 2023 Canada Open on Friday (7/7) at the dawn of the WIB, Ahsan/Hendra will face the 79th ranked Indian pair in the world, Krishna Prasad Garaga/Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjalag.
