Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Multinational technology and e-commerce company Amazons start terminating employmentlayoffs) to a number of employees in the human resources (HR) and cloud computing (cloud) divisions.
Amazon Web Services CEO Adam Selipsky said the layoffs affected employees in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica and other territories.
The effort is part of previously planned layoffs of 9,000 employees for efficiency reasons from the United States (US) company amid a storm of global economic uncertainty.
“This is a difficult day for our entire organization. I am fully aware of the impact on every person and family affected,” Selipsky said in a memo he wrote to employees, as quoted by CNBCThursday (4/27).
He also promised that the company would continue to provide severance packages, health insurance and support for external employment opportunities for affected employees.
Selipsky explained that the size of Amazon’s company and team has grown significantly in recent years. This is driven by customer demand for the cloud.
Given this rapid growth and the overall macroeconomic and business climate, Amazon is focusing on identifying and deploying resources.
“In many cases, this means team members handing over projects, initiatives, or the team they work for; however, in other cases, it results in the elimination of this role,” adds Selipsky. .
However, he remains optimistic that Amazon’s business will continue to grow in the future. Selipsky also says his party continues to innovate in order to build customer loyalty.
“I am optimistic about the future. We will overcome our opportunities and challenges and continue to change the world,” he said.
