F1 News: McLaren team boss Andrea Stella has revealed the team’s latest upgrade means nearly every aerodynamic part of the 2023 Formula 1 car will be redesigned.
After admitting ahead of the 2023 season that the team had failed to meet its development targets with the MCL60 Charger, McLaren are hoping to bounce back from a major upgrade in Azerbaijan.
Further development was carried out over the next two Grands Prix to complete the major transformations that had been made to the hitherto undeveloped car.
Stella said the team realized at the beginning of the year that the current car needed a complete overhaul, therefore the team decided to postpone it until mid-season in order to complete the complete transformation.
“Pretty early in the season we realized the car needed a fundamental overhaul, so this overhaul is actually interesting. have been made,” said the team leader.
“It will look good. We even had to redesign some parts under the bodywork.
“That’s also why it took a while to be able to do this upgrade. So I would say almost every car (already done the upgrade).”
Despite two cars going through Q3 in qualifying, they ended the Canadian Grand Prix weekend with nothing. They have only managed to pick up five points in the last five races, a result that should soon change.
