Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Actions by anti-Islamic groups in Canada have recently occurred again. On Thursday (5/18/2023), Maple State Police successfully arrested two perpetrators who crashed their car into a mosque.

Police say they received a call on April 5, 2023 from a Toronto mosque after a man allegedly pulled over in a parking lot and tried to run over worshipers. The suspect then went to a local mall, where he shouted anti-Islamic remarks.

Then, on April 7, the man then carried out another similar attack at a mosque in the nearby town of Markham. Police said they finally arrested the man yesterday.

“Following a hate-motivated anti-Muslim investigation, a man who was driving his vehicle towards worshipers at two mosques in Toronto, Canada has been arrested,” according to a police report cited in the statement. Al MayadeenFriday (5/19/2023).

Don’t stop there, acts of racism have also occurred. A 27-year-old woman in Kitchener, about 100 kilometers west of Toronto, allegedly carried out a hate-motivated attack on Wednesday as people lined up at a driving test center.

Mifrah Abid, the local coordinator of the Joint Coalition of Muslim Women against Islamophobia initiative, posted a video on Twitter in which she addresses a woman.

He accused the woman of making racist comments about brunette women. The woman denied the accusation before rushing over and grabbing Abid’s cellphone. He then threw the phone at Abid.

Canada itself has recently been hit by hate-motivated anti-Islamic actions. Researchers in 2020 found that the number of hate groups operating in the country had tripled in recent years, with anti-Muslim rhetoric being one of the “top” topics among right-wing extremists online.

To remedy this, Ottawa appointed its first special representative to combat Islamophobia last January. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the move aligns with his commitment to eliminate hate groups in the country.
