Transfer News: Arsenal Women have officially signed Canadian national team striker Cloe Lacasse from Portuguese club Benfica on a permanent deal.
The 29-year-old joins the Gunners after four years with Benfica, where he scored 102 goals in 131 games to help the team win three Portuguese league titles, three Portuguese League Cups and two Portuguese Super Cups.
He was the league’s top scorer in the 2019/20 season and was named the league’s Player of the Year at the end of the 2022/23 season.
Cloe Lacasse becomes Jonas Eidevall’s second summer signing after the arrival of experienced defender Amanda Ilestedt.
Lacasse, who has been named in Canada’s squad for this summer’s Women’s World Cup, told the official Arsenal Women’s website: “I’m very excited and excited to start here.
“I feel mentally and physically ready to be able to contribute here and win titles and I think this club has everything to compete for the top honours. I want to step up and score goals here for Arsenal.”
Eidevall said: “I am very happy that we have been able to sign Cloe to strengthen our front line here at Arsenal.
“Cloe is a proven goalscorer and has shown his quality over several seasons in two European leagues as well as the Champions League.
“He will add a different dimension to our attacking game and I look forward to working with him.”
