Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) chaired the 12th ASEAN Ministerial Consultation Meeting with Canada. This activity was the second meeting in a series of activities for the 55th ASEAN Economy Minister on the second day, Sunday (20/8/2023).

This meeting brought together Canadian Minister for Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Mary Ng and Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) Chairman Wayne C Farmed and other CABC delegates who presented key projects , activities, cooperation and CABC recommendations in 2024.

Wayne explained that his party is working in various sectors to maximize connectivity, bilateral economic opportunities and special partnerships in various sectors between Canada, ASEAN and ASEAN Member States (AMS).

In response to this, Zulhas also views the projects and initiatives of ASEAN and Canadian business actors as highly innovative and relevant to strengthening the economy in the ASEAN region.

“We support increased collaboration between business actors in various fields, particularly in trade, investment, connectivity, infrastructure, digital economy, food security and sustainable development,” Zulhas said during the a meeting, Sunday (20/8/2023).

Zulhas, representing all ASEAN economic ministers, also appreciated and thanked the CABC for attending the 55th AEM activity. He said the ASEAN ministers would help business players strengthen their cooperation to encourage regional economic growth.

“I encourage CABC’s programs and initiatives to continue. We, the ASEAN economic ministers, will continue to provide support to business players to drive economic growth in the region,” Zulhas said. .

In addition, this consultation meeting discussed several agendas, including the development of economic and regional policies, and the negotiations on the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement (ACAFTA).

In addition, this meeting also discussed the progress of the implementation of the Joint Statement between ASEAN and Canada, as well as preparations for the ASEAN Canada High Level Meeting on the sidelines of the 43rd series of ASEAN.

“I hope again that the goal can be achieved according to the work plan that has been prepared, and that the negotiations can have a positive impact on the economic growth of ASEAN and Canada,” Zulhas said. .
