Avril Lavigne received the Order of Canada in recognition of her contributions to culture and communities in Canada and around the world.
There is a meeting announcement on Friday, June 28, via the website of the Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon. “Avril Lavigne is one of the best-selling artists of all time,” the statement said. “She has sold over 50 million albums worldwide, paved the way for female-led punk rock music, and continues to do so.”

Continuing, Simon praised Lavigne not only for his artistic talent, but also for his selflessness. “Generous with her time, she supports people with serious illnesses, disabilities and Lyme disease through the Avril Lavigne Foundation. As a Special Olympics Global Ambassador, he promotes inclusion and helps end the stigma surrounding intellectual disability.
This all comes as Lavigne is on the road as part of her 2024 “The Greatest Hits” tour, which kicked off in May of this year and runs through the end of September. Last weekend, she performed at Glastonbury 2024. In August, she will return to North America for a final concert tour in support of Simple Plan. Buy tickets here.
