Bali police arrest Canadian businessman, Interpol fugitive in fraud case

Denpasar, tvOnenews.com – Bali Police and Bali Immigration Officers arrested and detained a Canadian fugitive from Interpol named Stephane Gagnon (50) last Friday (5/19).

Bali Police Chief Public Relations Commissioner Stefanus Satake Bayu Setianto said Stephane Gagnon was arrested at a villa in Canggu village, North Kuta district, Badung Regency, Bali.

“The person concerned is a fugitive from the Canadian government because he is suspected of having committed fraud and forgery in Canada,” Kombes Satake said on Monday (5/22).

The Canadian foreigner was arrested by the Bali police at the request of Interpol to the Indonesian police who issued a red control notice bearing the number: A-6452/8-2022, dated August 5, 2022 concerning information on the search for an Interpol fugitive from Canada.

Then, on Friday (19/5), Bali immigration officers managed to arrest Stéphane who works as a businessman in his country in the villa where he lives. Officers also obtained passport evidence.

Stéphane was then temporarily detained for 20 days from May 20, 2023 to June 8, 2023 in accordance with the provisional detention order number: SP.Han/46/V/2023/Ditreskrimum, May 20, 2023.

“The follow-up plan is awaiting an extradition request from the Government of Canada to the Government of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said. (awt/goal)
