Padang – Indonesian men's doubles, Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, successfully eliminated Canadian pair Dong Adam/Nyl Yakura in the first round of the Thailand Masters 2024. Appearing at Nimibutr Stadium, Bangkok, Tuesday (30/1/2024), Bagas /Fikri won two matches 11-21 and 11-21.
This victory allows Bagas/Fikri to move into the top 16. “Thank God we had smooth sailing and were able to win the match. During the match I saw that the opponent did not seem to be able to play optimally,” Bagas said after the match.
Bagas said one of the two Canadians, Nyl Yakura, appeared to have an ankle problem. “There may be a problem with Nyl Yakura's ankle. So it seems the opponent is limited in their ability to win the ball back,” he said.
Meanwhile, in terms of play, Bagas said that from the start, their play pattern had been good, so they played according to the desired strategy.
“We were able to win because from the beginning the strategy and the game pattern were in place. As usual, when we enter the field, we have to go straight there,” he said.
In the round of 16, Bagas/Fikri await the winner of the match between South Korean representatives Ko Sing Hyun/Shin Baek Chol and Indian representatives Pharanyu Kaosamaang/Worrapol Thongsa-Nga.
“In the build-up to the second half, everything is going well. We just have to stay focused,” he said.
