Bianca Andreescu decides to leave Cincinnati

Tennis News: Bianca Andreescu has confirmed she will not be competing at the 2023 Cincinnati Open after injuring her back at the start of the hard court season this summer.

The Canadian international fell to Italian international Camila Giorgi in the first round of this season’s Canadian Open in Montreal and afterwards told reporters she had been struggling with a back injury from the start. of the Washington Open the previous week. While his condition improved, the pain he felt did not lessen.

The 2019 US Open champion has confirmed that the injury is SI joint pain that radiates from the hip and pelvic region to the lower back. He explained that the injury was not too serious, the body put a lot of pressure on the back and felt more pain during the game against Giorgi than during the training session.

“Yeah, it’s hard when I get asked these questions all the time, like if I’m healthy, what’s going on. And in a way, yes, but I’m not like that. The last week during my game in Washington I had back pain. Some pain in the SI joint to be precise. This has happened to me before. To be honest, I had to deal with this at several times,” Andreescu explained.

“Yeah it just got better for a few days and then you know I started fighting again and of course I felt some irritation but I kind of saw a ray of hope at the end of the trip. But with the pain in the SI joint, it is very difficult, because it is not something very serious, but if you put pressure on it, you feel a lot of pain. This is what that I felt one of the days when I had a practice session before the tournament.

The Canadian won 62% of the points on her first serve against Giorgi, but that stat fell below 50% on her second serve. Giorgi also created eight break point chances and took advantage of three. When asked why he struggled to overcome the Italian tennis player’s serve, he said he had back pain.
