Tennis News: 22-year-old tennis player Bianca Andreescu says her short-term goal is to have fun and play her best game.
Meanwhile, the Canadian tennis player is also aiming to win more than one Grand Slam title and become the world number 1 tennis player. To date, she has won the US Open title and two WTA 1000-level tournament titles, and those three titles she won in the 2019 season.
In the same season, the 2019 champion in Indian Wells occupies the highest ranking of his career to date, ranked 4th in the world. The tennis player, who is currently ranked 27th in the world, suffered a serious ankle injury, more specifically to a ligament, during his Miami Open in March this season.
After being absent from the WTA tournament for a month, the Canadian returned to action at the Madrid Open before being knocked out in the second round and she hopes to do better at the Italian Open in Rome.
“It would be great to be back in the top 10, to win another Grand Slam title and another tournament. But I just want to go out there and have fun, play my best game and give it my all. If I stay in the present, don’t think too far, I know I can achieve my ultimate goal, which is to become world No. 1 and win more Grand Slam titles,” said Andreescu.
The world No. 27 hasn’t won a title since the 2019 season, but there were periods when he didn’t play much due to injury.
The tennis player, who turns 23 in June, believes he still has room to grow.
“I’m still 22 and I feel like I still have a lot of time to learn about myself and my game. Who knows what I’ll be in the next two or three seasons or even the next six months,” said Andreescu.
In the 2023 Madrid Open season, Andreescu received a first-round bye before losing to Wang Xiyu in three sets in the second round. Next week he will start his campaign in Rome. In Rome this season, he will appear for the second time after reaching the quarter-finals last term.
