Italian league news: Bologna are keen to bring in a former Juventus player who now plays at Toronto FC, Federico Bernardeschi, and want to bring him back to Serie A.
Federico Bernardeschi left Juventus on a free transfer to join MLS club Toronto FC, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract. In Canada, he played with former Napoli player Lorenzo Insigne.
Bernardeschi started his life well for Toronto, scoring eight goals in his first 13 MLS appearances, but things got tougher this season, managing just three goals and two assists in 21 games.
The latest report from Gazzetta dello Sport details Bologna’s interest in bringing the 29-year-old Italian back to Serie A this summer. But there is a problem to solve, Bernardeschi’s salary is too high.
Bernardeschi currently earns around €4m per season, a figure the Rossoblu are unable to match. Even so, his desire to return to Italy and feel the climate of prestigious competitions in Europe again could make a small difference.
The player recently found himself in an awkward situation, after being shown a red card in his side’s 4-0 loss to Orlando City.
Bernardeschi is known as an all-rounder. His football career started to climb since he played for Fiorentina, until he finally accepted the offer from Juventus, which heated the situation between the two clubs.
