Britain-US-Canada walkout at the G20, here’s what happened

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Three countries, namely the United Kingdom, the United States (US) and Canada have taken action To go for a walk coordinated since the G20 meeting. US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen initiated the move. Followed by colleagues from the UK and Canada, then other global financial leaders.

What happened?

The action came as the Russian delegation was speaking at the meeting in Washington. Russia itself was represented by Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.

The move was seen as a form of protest against Russia’s attack on Ukraine that began on February 24.

Yellen’s office declined to comment. But two of them look alike.

“We are united in our condemnation of Russia’s war on Ukraine and will push for stronger international coordination to punish Russia,” UK Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak said on Twitter. The Guardian.

“Global democracy will not stand idly by in the face of continued Russian aggression and war crimes,” said Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland.

This year, RI became the leader and received the title of G20 Presidency. Besides Indonesia, the G20 includes the United States (USA), South Africa (South Africa), Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Russia, France, China, Turkey and European Union.

In yesterday’s FMCBG, Ukraine was also present. Many countries have expressed concern about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani also appeared on the agenda saying, To go for a walk conducted by the three countries did not in any way hinder the course of the discussion. He considered it a natural thing to express his opinion.

“So in this case, it’s not too surprising for all of us, especially for us as presidents, and in my opinion, it will not cause problems in our discussion, which is also related to the substance it yourself,” said Sri Mulyani.

“I think that’s a good thing and it’s widely recognized and publicly expressed by all the members. Because I think the members of the G20 see the responsibility of the group, it’s so that we can address issues that are systemically important to the global economy.”

The G20 summit itself will be held in Bali in October. It has already been reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend.

It also led to several countries voting to exclude Russia from membership. But China and Brazil rejected it.
