That’s according to South Korean Ambassador to Canada Lim Woongsoon, who detailed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s travel plans to South Korea this week.
“Prime Minister Trudeau and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will sign a memorandum of understanding to increase trade in critical minerals and facilitate the participation of youth from both countries in state exchanges,” Lim said.
Lim said Canada is the ideal partner for his country to help develop Korea’s semiconductor and electric vehicle battery sectors with Ottawa’s mineral supplies.
As loaded World NewsOn Tuesday (16/5), Seoul is currently trying to reduce its dependence on China, which supplies around 80 percent of its minerals, by turning to Ottawa.
“Canada could be an excellent choice for Korean companies looking to diversify their supply of critical minerals,” he added.
Apart from that, in addition to trade, the two countries will expand access to allow young people from Canada and South Korea to do internships or work there, to discover the respective cultures of the two great countries.
Trudeau is expected to arrive in Seoul between May 16 and 18, with his first day dedicated to attending the opening ceremony of the Kapyong Battle Memorial Trail, designed to honour Canada’s contributions during the Korean War.
