Jakarta –
Canada launches design new passport last Wednesday. This new passport is equipped with advanced security features and bears the logo of King Charles III.
Launched from Reuters, Thursday (11/5/2023), the Canadian Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Agency (IRCC) said that with the issuance of this new series of passports, Canada will be the first Commonwealth country to include the King Charles III logo on its travel documents.
However, the IRCC will first use the passport with the version using the coat of arms of Queen Elizabeth II before the new design with the logo of the new King of England is approved by King Charles III.
Various new features are also available in this latest design, one of which is the owner’s personal information which is laser engraved, instead of printed in ink on the polycarbonate data page. Thus, this design can minimize fraud.
Not only that, the IRCC added, this passport also features a kinegram just above the primary photo, a translucent page with a secondary image of the passport holder, variable laser images, and temperature-sensitive ink.
The new passport cover will be accented with a large maple leaf and the visa page will also feature seasonal artwork that changes under ultraviolet light. Then, on the cover and back of this passport, there is also a polycarbonate data page and an embedded electronic passport chip.
The IRCC also reports that this new series of passports will be launched at the end of this summer. Citizens can also complete the process of updating this travel document online.
For additional information, the Passport Index places Canada’s most recent passport series fourth in the world for its mobility score, along with seven other countries, including the United States, Australia and Japan.
The passport also ranks 26th in the world for its visa features, allowing passport holders visa-free entry to 115 countries, with 51 countries allowing visa on arrival. In the ranking, the United Arab Emirates come first.
