Liputan6.com, Jakarta The BWF World Tour 2023 continues this week with the Super 500 level tournament Canada Open 2023. This tournament takes place in Calgary from July 4 to 9 and few Indonesian representatives are participating.
Indonesia continues to participate even though the event location is remote. However, the Red and White were only represented by one representative. It was the men’s doubles Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan who participated.
The dads are trying to win the title while adding points in the race for tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympics. Their performances have seen a decline so far.
Ahsan/Hendra last won the title at the 2019 BWF World Tour Finals. They have only made the final once this year, including at All England. Meanwhile, in their last appearance at the Indonesia Open, Dads stopped in the top 16. In the first round of the Canada Open, Dads will face the winners of the qualifiers.
Despite the lack of Indonesian representatives, world-class badminton players still participate in the Canada Open. The world number one in men’s singles, Viktor Axelsen, took part. He competed against Kunlavut Vitidsarn against Kodai Naraoka.
Akane Yamaguchi, first place in women’s singles, also participated. Meanwhile, Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi are Ahsan/Hendra’s biggest rivals.
Meanwhile, Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida (women’s doubles) and Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino (mixed doubles) are the favorites in their respective sectors.
