Canada’s big step for H-1B visa holders, families can benefit too

Outaouais: Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced on Tuesday that the government would keep the work permit route open to allow 10,000 US H-1B visa holders to come to work in the country.

In its official statement, Canada’s Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship said the program would also provide study or work permits to family members holding H-1B visas.

“Thousands of workers in high-tech fields are employed at companies that have significant operations in Canada and the United States, and those working in the United States often hold special H-1B work visas. Effective July 16, 2023, holders of special H-1B work visas in the United States and accompanying immediate family members will be able to apply to come to Canada,” the statement read.

Applicants approved under the new decree will receive an open work permit for up to three years.

“They will be able to work for almost any employer anywhere in Canada. Spouses and dependents will also be able to apply for temporary resident visas, along with work or study permits, as needed,” the statement said.

According to Drita, based in Canada, Fraser said that by the end of this year, the federal government will develop immigration pathways for some of the most talented people in the world who can come to Canada to work for technology companies, whether or not they have a job. or not.

However, the immigration minister did not explain exactly who was passing or how many people would enter the road.

The H-1B visa allows foreign nationals to work temporarily in the United States in certain specialized occupations, including the technology sector. Tech companies continued to hire groups during the pandemic, but have since started laying off in large numbers. This leaves many H-1B visa holders scrambling to find new jobs.
