This was conveyed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a statement on Monday (5/6), saying the fire season was the worst fire season for his country.
To that end, Trudeau expressed his support for the volunteers fighting the fires across the country, as well as the residents who were evacuated.
“We stand with everyone in this country who has endured this painful and heartbreaking time,” Trudeau said.
So far, according to Public Safety Minister Bill Blair’s records, throughout 2023 an estimated 2,214 wildfires have occurred in Canada, and an estimated 3.3 million hectares have been burned in that country.
“However, there are currently 413 wildfires of which 249 are considered out of control. There are also 18 active wildfires that specifically affect the state, including six in Alberta, five in Saskatchewan, one in the Northern Territories -West, four in Quebec and two in Nova Scotia,” added Blair.
As charged Anadolu Agency, On Tuesday (6/6), the evacuation of about 26,000 people has been carried out so far.
In battling the wildfires, Canada itself was aided by more than 1,000 firefighters from the United States, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Additional firefighters from France are also expected to be deployed.
Additionally, the government continues to train firefighters through the Wildfire Training Fund, where over 400 indigenous firefighters have been employed and trained to deal with situations that continue to spiral out of control in almost every province across the country.
