Jakarta (ANTARA) – Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia Nadia Burger said empowering women truly helps society realize its full human and economic potential.
“Study after study has shown how important women's participation in society is – for economic growth, for protecting our human rights and for a strong, healthy democracy,” Burger said at an “event rapid mentoring” organized to commemorate International Women's Day. in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Quoting the website internationalwomensday.com, International Women's Day, observed every March 8, is a day that celebrates the achievements of women in the social, economic, cultural and political fields.
International Women's Day is also a day that marks a call to action to accelerate equality for women.
“International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of women around the world and reflect on the kind of future we want to build together,” Burger said.
Burger added that women have the skills and knowledge to contribute to and lead businesses and organizations around the world.
On this occasion, Burger also said that the speed mentoring event, held at the official residence of the Canadian Ambassador, aimed to provide a space where women could discuss various challenges and learn from experiences of each.
Speed mentoring events provide opportunities for mentors and participants to share their ideas, experiences and advice on overcoming obstacles that female professionals face in their careers.
The event also discusses how women can better help each other.
Also present as mentors, some of them were the charge d'affaires of the Canadian mission to ASEAN Vicky Singmin, the Swedish ambassador to Indonesia Marina Berg, the deputy head of mission of the mission of United Kingdom to ASEAN Sarah Bennett, Director of the Human Development Directorate of the ASEAN Secretariat Rodora T. Babaran, Secretary General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman and Royal Canadian Mounted Police Inspector Joanna Keeping.
