PARIS – Canada, led by Olympic veteran Ellie Black, reached the women’s artistic gymnastics team final on Sunday after finishing fifth in qualifying.
Black, of Halifax, led the Canadian team with an eighth-place finish overall. She scored a total of 54.766 points on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise to advance to the all-around final.

Ava Stewart of Bowmanville, Ont., finished 21st in the all-around and also qualified.

Black, competing in her fourth Olympics, also qualified for the vault final with a seventh-place finish. Vancouver’s Shalon Olsen will join Black in sixth.
Cassie Lee of Toronto and Aurélie Tran of Repentigny, Que., also contributed to the Canadian team’s score.
The Canadian men’s team reached the final on Saturday after finishing eighth in qualifying. It’s the second time both Canadian gymnastics teams have reached the final, the first being the boycotted 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
The United States dominated the women’s qualifying, with Simone Biles, Sunisa Lee and Jordan Chiles finishing in the top three spots overall.
