“I don't have too high expectations, I will just try to do my best. After that, we will see the results,” Yang said when meeting after the match on Saturday (27/1).
Aside from getting him to the final round, this is also Yang's biggest achievement as the first Canadian badminton player to advance to the final of one of the tournaments on the BWF World Tour calendar .
His journey to the Indonesia Masters 2024 has not been easy. He had to face the top seeds, starting with Li Si Feng (China) in the round of 16, P Rajawat (India) in the round of 16 and Lee Zii Jia (Malaysia) in the quarterfinals.
Not only that, his semi-final feat also marked the first time Yang had beaten Ginting after losing three times in the final of the 2023 Sudirman Cup, 2023 Singapore Open and 2023 Hong Kong Open .
The men's singles world number 24 said the main key to his victory over the third seed was appearing calmer and ready to anticipate his opponent's attacks.
“I thought it was a really good match. “We both played very well, and in the end the opponent's tactics were very good, but I think I was better prepared to block them from the second game,” Yang said.
When asked if the cheers from Istora's home fans put him under pressure, Yang admitted that he felt good and enjoyed the match.
“I feel good with the crowd in the arena. To be honest, maybe Ginting is under the most pressure because everyone supports him. We know, the atmosphere is crazy! » Yang said.
“But, again, everyone handles pressure in different ways, and I think I was able to handle it a little better today,” he added.
