JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The head of the Public Information Bureau (Karo Penmas) of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, said that there is no evidence yet that two personnel of the international relations division (Divhubinter) were accused of having extorted a Canadian citizen (WN), with the initial SG (50).
Meanwhile, SG is a Canadian citizen who was arrested after being declared a fugitive by Interpol.
“No Divhubinter staff extorted Canadian citizens,” Ramadhan said during a press conference at the national police headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (06/07/2023).
Ramadhan said there were indeed two members of Divhubinter who were being questioned about the alleged extortion.
However, according to him, so far no evidence has been found regarding the extortion of SG.
“Of course to clarify, a review needs to be done. But so far there is no evidence that Divhubinter staff committed the crime of extortion,” he said.
Ramadhan added that if there are any developments or findings of new evidence in the case, they will be released to the public.
“If there are any developments in the review or other evidence, we will pass them on and include those who claim to be those people,” he said.
Earlier, Bali Police Public Relations Chief Kombes Pol Stefanus Satake Bayu Setianto said that two Divhubinter National Police members and a civilian were investigated by the investigation division of the police. Professional and Safety Division or Propam Polri.
This review was carried out as a follow-up to a report by SG’s lawyer regarding allegations of extortion against his IDR 1 billion client.
“An investigation is still ongoing regarding the truth (SG has been blackmailed), the reported parties are currently being investigated by Propam Mabes Polri,” he said during a meeting on Monday (5/6/2023).
Satake said SG was originally due to be handed over to Bali Immigration on Sunday (06/04/2023), for later extradition to Australia.
However, the submission process had to be postponed according to SG’s lawyer’s report.
He added that SG should be extradited to Australia at the request of Canada’s Interpol.
“Yesterday we had planned to turn him over to Immigration and then coordinate with Canada, but the Canadian citizen’s lawyer reported that the extortion was being carried out by police information at National Police Headquarters,” did he declare.
