POSJAKUT – Bayern Munich Canada defender Alphonso Davies has said he will donate his 2022 World Cup winnings to charity.
Davies, born to Liberian parents in a refugee camp in Ghana where he spent five years before moving to Canada, said he wanted to show his gratitude by giving something back.
“Canada welcomed me and my family and gave us the chance to have a better life. It made my dream come true,” the 21-year-old wrote on Twitter, as quoted by Reuters, Wednesday August 3, 2022.

“It’s a great honor to play for Canada and I wanted to give back, so I decided to donate this year’s World Cup winnings to charity.”
Davies, the first footballer to become an ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said he understood what those who were forced to flee for their own safety went through. Read more
