ECONOMY Canada presents 35,000 work in March. Level unemployment remained stable at 5%. This is a record level for the fourth consecutive month.
This was stated by Statistics Canada on Thursday (6/4). Job creations increased in March. The numbers fluctuate after an increase of 22,000 in February, a significant increase in December of 69,000 and an increase of 150,000 in January.
“This is a stronger result than expected. Economists previously expected only a slight increase in employment,” said Royce Mendes, analyst at Mouvement Desjardins.

Employment increased in the private sector and remained stable in the public and independent sectors. Job growth was strong in the transportation, finance and insurance sectors, but declined in the construction and natural resources sectors.
The average hourly wage for employees increased more than 5% from last year to C$33.12 (US$24.56) in March. The unemployment rate has not changed since it fell slightly in December or approached the record low of 4.9% recorded in June and July.

According to Statistics Canada, most unemployed people have been out of work for 13 weeks or less. The proportion of long-term unemployed, i.e. those who have been unemployed for 27 weeks or more, reached 16%, compared to 20.3% the previous year. (AFP/Z-2)
