F1 News: Lando Norris recorded brilliant results. McLaren drivers were at the forefront of opening practice for the Canadian F1 Grand Prix, with the session affected by a massive storm that hit Montreal.
There was no running for 20 minutes while officials cleared the remaining puddles, and when the drivers were finally allowed to go out and test the conditions, the peloton was either on intermediate tires or with rain tires.
Conditions improved significantly as the precipitation lessened, allowing everyone to switch to slick tires in the closing moments of the session, with Norris setting the fastest time of 1min 24.435sec.
Norris is three tenths ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, while his teammate Charles Leclerc is third. Lewis Hamilton placed his Mercedes in fourth position, ahead of reigning Red Bull world champion Max Verstappen.
Oscar Piastri recorded quite good results. McLaren’s second driver finished sixth, with Pierre Gasly and Valtteri Bottas finishing seventh and eighth for Alpine and Sauber.
