DENPASAR, BALIPOST.com – Based on Red Notice Control No: A-6452/8-2022, dated August 5, 2022 regarding information on the search for a Canadian fugitive from Interpol, Stéphane Gagnon (50 years), a joint team of Immigration and Bali Police Criminal Investigation Directorate Sub-Directorate 4 conducted a search. As a result, on Friday (5/19), officers arrested Stephane at a villa in the Canggu area, north of Kuta.
Bali Kombes Police Public Relations Chief Pol. Satake Bayu, Sunday (5/21) explained that the arrest was also based on a letter from Kadiv Hubinter Polri No: R/347/V/HUM.4.4.9/2023/Divhubinter, dated May 19, 2023, regarding the request for the arrest and detention of Interpol Red Notice subject Stéphane Gagnon. In addition, on Friday (19/5), officers managed to trace the whereabouts of the attacker, including the villa in Canggu area, north of Kuta.
“The attacker works as a businessman in his country. He is wanted by the Canadian government on suspicion of committing crimes of fraud and counterfeiting,” he said.
Furthermore, the author was temporarily detained for 20 days from May 20, 2023 to June 8, 2023 at the Bali Regional Police. “We are still awaiting an extradition request from Canada to the government of the Republic of Indonesia,” Satake said. (State Map/Balipost)
