Israeli police said a Canadian citizen was killed Monday after threatening Israeli security forces with a knife near the Gaza border.

The Israeli military said the man drove to the entrance of an Israeli town near the border, left his vehicle and approached security forces armed with a knife.

The soldiers opened fire and killed the man. There were no other injuries.

The attack, which came amid a wave of stabbing attacks across the country during the nine-month conflict in Gaza, took place at the entrance to the Israeli town of Netiv Hasara, just 300 meters north of the border with Gaza.

According to Israeli military officials, on October 7, Netiv Hasara was attacked and 20 residents were killed after gunmen using paragliders jumped through the concrete border wall.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military on Monday ordered the evacuation of parts of the Gaza Strip that have been designated as humanitarian zones, saying it plans to launch an operation against Hamas militants hiding in the area and use them to launch rocket attacks toward Israel.
