Canadian minister to visit Indonesia to deepen Indo-Pacific relations

Canada actively participates in the CPTPP at all levels to advance the implementation and expansion of the Agreement through the admission of new members.

JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Canadian Minister of International Trade, Export, Small Business and Economic Development, Mary Ng, will visit Indonesia from October 10-12 to intensify economic relations in the Indo-Pacific region.

Minister Ng will travel to Jakarta, Indonesia from October 10-12, where he will meet with Indonesian government partners and representatives of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to promote ties Canadian trade and investment in the Indo-Pacific region, as and when at the Embassy. Canada said in a statement Friday in Jakarta.

According to the embassy, ​​during his visit, Minister Ng will engage with businesses, including women entrepreneurs, to promote bilateral trade and commercial relations between Canada and Indonesia.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Indonesia and the 45th anniversary of the Canada-ASEAN partnership.

Accordingly, Foreign Minister Ng will also discuss the progress of negotiations on the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the Canada-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

During the meeting, Minister Ng will focus on improving Canada’s trade diversification strategy and economic resilience, while advocating for the strengthening of the rules-based international trading system.

Before leaving for Indonesia, Ng will travel to Singapore on Oct. 7-8 to attend the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) commission meeting.

Ng will join other CPTPP economies including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.

Minister Ng will continue to promote Canada’s interest in diversifying trade with key markets around the world and supporting an efficient, open, inclusive and rules-based global trading system, the embassy statement said.

“Canada is actively participating in the CPTPP at all levels to advance the implementation and expansion of the agreement through the accession of new members,” he said.
