“These acts are increasingly clearly war crimes, including totally unacceptable crimes, whether we think of what we found in Bucha or the discovery of mass graves in areas taken over by Ukraine,” he said, as quoted by CNA.



Trudeau, who is currently in London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, told reporters he had met British Prime Minister Liz Truss and said Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was high on their agenda. agenda.

“It is clear that the UK and Canada have been the two strongest countries in support of Ukraine and against Russia’s illegal actions.”

Ukrainian officials said last week they found 440 bodies in the forest near Izium in northeastern Ukraine, a town that was retaken by Ukrainian forces. They said most of the dead were civilians and the cause of death was not yet known. The Kremlin has not commented on the discovery of the graves, but Moscow has repeatedly denied intentionally attacking civilians or committing atrocities.

“There must be proper investigation and transparency and Vladimir Putin, his supporters and the Russian military must be held accountable for the atrocities they have committed and continue to commit in Ukraine,” he said.


Trudeau, who is due to meet Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Sunday evening, said Canada stands firmly behind Ukraine and will continue to provide aid.

Meanwhile, Trudeau also said his talks with Truss also touched on trade relations between their countries.

He explained that the two countries had discussed the Canada-UK trade deal which is being negotiated and progressing, as well as Canada’s support for the UK to eventually join the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement. (CPTPP).
