As previously reported, Gagnon admitted that Rp. 1 billion was extorted four weeks before his arrest in Vila Aman, Canggu, North Kuta on May 19, 2023.

Initially, Gagnon was contacted by someone claiming to have knowledge at Divhub Inter Police. The civilian believed to be Markus then stated that if Gagnon did not pay the requested money, he would be arrested.

Markus then showed evidence of conversations with elements of the International Police Transportation Department. “Since then, Gagnon has been contacted constantly as he continues to be threatened and asked to deposit money immediately,” said Pahrur Dalimunthe, Gagnon’s lawyer.

Gagnon eventually remitted the money three times by wire transfer. “The first one was Rs750m, then Rs150m and Rs100m,” Pahrur said while confirming he was keeping all the evidence of the transfer.

Feeling inadequate, Mark still asked for more money in a larger amount, Rp. 3 billion. “My client didn’t want it anymore and was eventually arrested,” Pahrur added.
