VIVA Techno – Platform Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, plans to begin testing to restrict access to certain news content in Canada.

The trial, which will last for several weeks, will prevent users and media editors from viewing or sharing certain news content.

During testing, a small percentage of users will be notified when they are about to share news content. The US tech giant is conducting tests in response to the Online News Act proposed by the Canadian government last year.

The law proposes to force platform giants, such as Google and Meta, to pay news or media publishers for their content, launches from the Verdict site, Monday June 5, 2023.

For your information, last month Global Affairs President Meta Nick Clegg said that if the law is passed, it will certainly end the availability of news content in Canada.

“So we have made the difficult decision that if this flawed online news law is passed, we will have to end the availability of news content on Facebook and Instagram for Canada,” Clegg said.
